The good, the bad, and the just plain ugly…

Hi everyone!  Unfortunately I am writing this today to let everyone know that try as we might, we’re not perfect… We strive to provide the best service possible, but everything is not always in our control.  Unfortunately, this past weekend is an example of just that.  We have recently had a high influx of party bookings from a Living Social Ad.  Unfortunately, the unthinkable happened, and one of those parties did not get the service required, paid for, or deserved.  The following is an email that I have written to the offended party that more or less explains what happened:
Parent,

That is not the case at all.  I apologize profusely and feel absolutely terrible about what has happened.  This has never happened before and I can tell you that the person who did not show up for your party is no longer working for us.  I have a wonderful group of women who I depend on and trust to do these parties.  That being said, I had no contact from her prior to your party to let me know she would not be there – if I had, I would have made arrangements for someone else to do it, or if that could not be done due to schedules, I would have let you know as soon as I found out.  I did not even have contact from her after the fact, and the only reason I knew things did not go as planned is when I received the emails you had sent Saturday afternoon.

You were right in your previous email – there is no way to correct the situation.  I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with ideas for both the birthday girl and her guests.  This weekend I have ordered little gifts for all of the guests as well as a present for the birthday girl.  If you wouldn’t mind contacting the parents to see if it would be ok to share their addresses with me, we will ship these items out to each little girl.

Again, I apologize profusely.  This is not how this business is run.  I cannot even communicate to you how upset and angry I was when I found out what had happened on Saturday.  I cannot even imagine one of my girls being late and a family and guests having to wait on them, much less for them to not show up at all. There is no excuse for that, and as I said before, her job here has been terminated.

I also wanted to let you know that we have changed our name in order to be able to reach a broader audience and offer parties for little boys as well as the Princess parties for little girls.  I just want you to understand that we really are a reputable business that strives to do right by our customers.  Our goal is to bring you a product that makes your special day a little more special.

Also, please accept my apologies for not responding sooner.  I do not have constant access to this email.  Also, I wanted to be able to address the issue before I wrote back.

Please let me know your thoughts on the above suggestions.

Thank you,

Julie

This was a horrible incident that absolutely broke my heart. We were lucky enough to have the parent let us make it up to them.  This is not the way we do business and is exactly the opposite of what we are trying to do.  It is our goal to help make little girls’ dreams come true and to make their day a little extra special.  As much as I hate to have to share this with everyone, I believe you deserve full disclosure before you do business with a company.
